Yellow Blusher Trend Is Back And We’re Here For It

The yellow blusher started as being purely editorial, but quickly made its way into real-life everyday makeup looks

You may think that hues of mustard and lemon on your cheeks would make you look like a clown, but get this, a yellow blusher is surprisingly wearable; and — it looks great on Asian skin tones.

Makeup artists and beauty bloggers began experimenting with the yellow blusher trend last year after Rihanna dropped her yellow-gold highlighter Fenty Trophy Wife (S$50). And what started as being purely editorial quickly made its way into real-life everyday makeup looks.

Cut to 2018, and the yellow blusher is still going strong.

Wear it with coordinating yellow eye shadow or lip or leave the rest of your makeup nude, we guarantee it won't make you look like jaundice just got to you.

So, are you ready for some major inspiration?

How To Wear A Yellow Blusher?

Scroll down to see makeup artists and beauty bloggers trying this trend, so you know what to expect and how to wear it.

This look as the name suggests is your classic editorial look. You may not be able to wear it to your office, but you sure can try this for your night outs and parties. It is a bold look and not for those who aren't risk takers.

To achieve this look (courtesy makeup artist Linda Hallberg), you need a subtle yellow blusher or the Zoeva Aristo Blush Palette (S$26) that has oragne-hued blushes and a yellow highlighter.

You will also need a deep eyeshadow palette such as the Sephora Collection Colorful 5 Eyeshadow Palette (S$25) and a bold red lip like Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Adora (S$30).

2. Colour coordinated

Taking cue from beauty blogger Stella Julian, you can try this colour coordinated look. From the eyes to the cheeks and the lips, everything is yellow. Yes, it will make quite a bold statement, but if you're up for it, you must certainly try it.

For this look, you will need a bright yellow eyeshadow akin to the Nyx Love You So Mochi Eyeshadow Palette in Electric Pastels (S$36). You can use the same cheek combination from Zoeva Aristo Blush Palette (S$26) that has oragne-hued blushes and a yellow highlighter.

And for your lips, you can try the Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Saw C (S$28) and top it up with the Fenty Beauty Trophy Wife highlighter.

3. Nude face

Another way of wearing a yellow blusher is to keep the entire face nude and natural and let the cheeks shine bright yellow. Take your inspiration from beauty blogger Karina Yoon, for this particular look.

To achieve it, you'd need a bright orange-hued blusher that you can top up with a yellow eyeshadow for that burnt orange look. Try Zoeva Aristo Blush Palette (S$26) for the former and Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in Sunglasses Needed (S$13).

For the lips you can either go with a nude lip colour or a gloss topper like the Kopari Coconut Lip Glossy (S$21).

4. Cosmic eyes

The cosmic look with the addition of red hues and yellow looks great on dark skin as well on Asian brown skin. We are taking our inspiration for this look from makeup artist Tai.

To achieve this look, you'll need just one eyeshadow palette that you can use as your blush. Try the Sephora collection Medium Shopping Bag Makeup Palette (S$45). For the glitter toppers, you can use Tarte Chrome Paint Shadow Pot in Martini (S$32). As for the lips, try the Stunna Lip Paint by Fenty Beauty (S$36).

5. Coordinated eyes and lips

This is perhaps the easiest look to cop and one that you can wear during daytime as well. Taking a cue from beauty blogger Tova Tomiko you can also incorporate this simple eye-makeup with a winged liner, and pair it with yellow lower lashes and yellow blusher.

You'll need a bright yellow eyeshadow that can used as a blusher as well. Try the Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in Sunglasses Needed (S$13) and use it both --as the eyeshadow and the blusher.

However, if you prefer a slight glow on your cheeks, top up the yellow blusher with the Benefit Cosmetics High Beam Face Highlighter (S$46).

Even though a yellow blusher may not be your daily look, it certainly is worth trying. And if you do, tag us on our Instagram page with #HSAbeautylooks and win a chance to be featured.
