Let's begin with the basics. Nobody can ever go wrong with a nude lip, no matter the outfit. But how do you select the perfect nude shade? Well, the key is the know your undertone. If you are cool-toned, we recommend opting for a pinkish nude like the KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Nude Petal (S$31).

Somebody who is warm-toned can opt for a more brown-based nude KVD Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Fawn Nude (S$31). While somebody with neutral-tones can choose either or a mixture of both.

What About The Rest Of Your Makeup?

As for the rest of your makeup, remember that the key to nailing the LBD with a nude lip is to amp up the eyes.

Since your dress is one solid colour and you are wearing a nude lip, its best to add a bit of colour to your eyelids. Because if you don't, you could potentially look totally washed out.

You can try eyeshadow palettes with colours including bronze, chocolate, purple or even emerald and green like the . And top it up with a dash of pewter (tin foil shadows) for a bit of sparkle like the Kat Von D (KVD) Beauty Metal Crush Eyeshadow (S$16).

While you are perfecting the eyeshadow, make sure that it is more intense in the eyeball line and darkest near the eyelash. As for the blush, opt for a nude blush as well and add a slight touch of bronzer for a sun-kissed glow.

2. The classic red

If you love a good red lip then there is no better time to pair it than with a classic LBD. Its the perfect combination.

The only thing you need to bear in mind while slapping your favourite red on is to keep the rest of your makeup fairly fresh and simple. This way, your lipstick and your dress will both standout.

Now, in case you are wondering what type of red you should opt for. Again, trust your undertone. If you are cool-toned a plum or blue-based red would work really well like the Laneige Skin Intense Lipstick in Midnight Wine (S$34).

On the other hand, if you are warn-toned you can go for brown-based pinks that enhance your natural tan like the Makeup Forever Artist Lip Brush (S$33). If you are neutral-toned, you can choose either of the two.

What About The Rest Of Your Makeup?

In terms of your eyeshadow we recommend that you opt for colours that are almost nude or light brown with a slight hint of shine. You can add your bronzer (The Balm Bahama Mama Bronzer - S$35) to your eyelids to give it a bit of depth.

Keep the eyeliner to bare minimum as well, and don't forget a lash lengthening mascara (Stila's Huge Extreme Lash Mascara- S$32).

As for your cheeks, keep it fresh and dewy. A dash of peach or pink work really well on Asian skin tones. Add a bit of highlighter to the high points of your face. This includes the bridge of your node, brow bone, cupid's bow and cheeks; and you are good to go.

Both these school of thoughts are considered ideal. But when you are deciding 'what colour lipstick should I wear with a black dress,' trust your instincts.

When you feel confident, it shows. And no matter what you wear or how you wear it, you'll be able to pull it off with aplomb.
