Rising Star Lana Condor Is Lead Actress In Upcoming Netflix Teen Romcom
The movie adaptation of Jenny Han's "To All The Boys I've Loved Before" is coming soon to Netflix, and we can't wait!
Netflix recently released the trailer for the teen romcom To All The Boys I've Loved Before, and we're delighted to see an Asian girl in the starring role. Read on to learn more about the To All The Boys I've Loved Before actress.
Hollywood has never been as diverse as it is today. The entertainment industry has finally recognised that the world wants stories with characters from all backgrounds (i.e. not just white and hetero). But Asian American actors are still struggling to find work — they're rarely ever cast in lead roles, and when they're cast, they're often made to play stereotypes or the "exotic" character.
Thankfully, this seems to be changing.
The adaptation of Jenny Han's YA book, To All The Boys I've Loved Before is about a girl who writes love letters to her crushes without any intention of sending them. But one day, her letters are sent out to five of her crushes, and all hell breaks loose.
Lana was born in Cần Thơ, a city in southern Vietnam, on May 11, 1997.
She was adopted in October of that year by her American parents, Mary Carol and Bob Condor, along with her non-biological brother, Arthur.
“They had to walk through the jungle to get [to the orphanage], because cars couldn’t get through the mud. But my parents came and fell in love with me,” she said in this interview with Kore. “They were like, ‘She’s the one!’”
Lana grew up in Whidbey Island, Washington and New York City before they settled down in California when she was 15.
The To All the Boys I've Loved Before actress studied ballet for years before she took up acting classes. Bet those moves come in handy in all her fight scenes!
Lana made her acting debut as Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse — not bad for a first movie, huh?
Since then she's appeared in the Boston Marathon bombing movie Patriots Day, as well as the thriller TV film High School Lover.
Apart from To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Lana is also set to appear in the sci-fi movie Alita: Battle Angel, which is set for release this December. She will be Koyomi, an orphaned teen and freelance photographer.
Lana is also co-starring in another coming-of-age romcom called Summer Night.
She'll also be starring in the television action-thriller series Deadly Class, which is about a secret high school that trains top assassins for crime families. Intriguing, eh?
