The year 2018 was that of ultraviolet. And, while we did have fun with it, now is the time to dive deep into the oceans. If you haven't guessed it yet, this is the month for the Pantone colors 2019 announcement and 'Living Coral' has come out as the winner.
Pantone, which is a self-proclaimed authority on colour has declared Living Coral, as the colour of 2019.
"Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow, Pantone 16-1546, Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment," Pantone announced through a press release.
Pantone Colors 2019 Announcement: Deep Into The Ocean
Each year, the New Jersey-based company picks a colour of the year. They do this reportedly based on "socioeconomic conditions, fashion trends, new technologies, as well as new trends in the realms of lifestyle, art, music, travel, and of course, social media."
While the year 2018 was dedicated to ultraviolet, for the next year, the company decided to look at nature for their inspiration.
In his statement, Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute explained the choice. "Color is an equalizing lens through which we experience our natural and digital realities, and this is particularly true for Living Coral," he said.
"With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Pantone Living Coral hit a responsive chord," Eiseman added, while talking about Pantone colors 2019.
The company also shared that they picked 'Living Coral' as it is welcoming and encouraging and therefore, allows for intimacy and natural connection.
A Life Affirming Colour: Living Coral
While announcing the same on their Instagram handle, Pantone shared: "Introducing the Pantone Color of the Year 2019, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral - an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression. #COY2019 (sic)"
In their statement they also stated, "In its glorious, yet unfortunately more elusive, display beneath the sea, this vivifying and effervescent color mesmerizes the eye and mind."
Adding, "Lying at the center of our naturally vivid and chromatic ecosystem, Pantone Living Coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of color."
According to Pantone this particular shade Living Coral is a “vibrant, yet mellow” orange-pink. And if you're a makeup lover, you're in luck because many cosmetic products in the market already have this colour. In fact, chances are you might have a bundle of them in your closet too.
