The Best Dressed Celebrities At The Oscars 2019 Red Carpet
Celebrities dressed in pinks, ruffles, pantsuits, metallics, and gender-neutral gowns, made for strong contenders for Oscars best dressed of all time
The Oscars best dressed of all time is usually a list of celebrities who play it safe. But this year was different. The attendees took major fashion risks and much to our joy the red carpet was inundated with some of the best outfits ever worn.
There were a bunch of show-stopping metallic outfits (Jennifer Lopez, Bree Larson, Awkwafina, and Emma Stone). It was also the night of big ruffles and bows in pink (Gemma Chan, Kacey Musgraves, Kiki Layne, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett). As well as power suits (Amy Poehler, Awkwafina) and of course, the nam who refused to wear a tux (Billy Porter in Christian Siriano). The regulars also took risks at the red carpet this year (Rachel Weisz, Charlize Theron, Melissa McCarthy).

1.The big ruffle gang
Gemma Chan served some real fashion at the 91st Academy Awards when she came dressed in a pink Masion Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli. She accessorised her outfit with Bvlgari jewels and Jimmy Choo heels and clutch.
The singer-turned-actress turned up in a gorgeous red ruffled one-shoulder Elie Saab Haute Couture. She kept her hair simple and her jewels to the minimum to let her outfit shine. And this risk certainly paid off.
Not only did Hanna Beachler became the first African-American to be nominated and then win an Oscar for production design; she also became the first ever to wear Wakanda-inspired jewels with a huge red, ruffled outfit.
Actor Kacey Musgraves served the red carpet with some a serious pink ruffles in her tulle-inspired Giambattista Valli outfit. She kept her hair tied back and her makeup very Disney princess-esque and glittery.
Actor Linda Cardellini came out in a gorgeous Maison Schiaparelli tulle and ruffle outfit in pink. She accessorised her look with Tamara Mellon Shoes, a Tyler Ellis Clutch and Harry Winston jewels.
2. The Metallic brigade
The rapper-turned-actor represented her blockbuster hit Crazy Rich Asians looking crazy rich good. She hit gender norms right out the park in her metallic pantsuit by DSquared2. She accessorised her look with Jimmy Choo clutch and heels and Chopard jewels.
Looking ever so graceful in off-the-shoulder crin-based evening gown Elie Saab was Michelle Yeoh. The actor brought her class-A poise and elegance on the red carpet and was quickly touted as one of the Oscars best dressed of all time. She accessorised her outfit with Chopard and Richard Mille jewelry.
Dressed in bespoke embroidered mirror mosaic long sleeve Tom Ford gown, Jennifer Lopez brought major bling to the red carpet. Her hair was simple and wavy and she accessorised her look with her favourite arm candy, her partner, Alex Rodriguez.
The 29-year-old Oscar-winning actress made a grand entrance in her Celine high-neck floor-length with a thigh-high slit gown. She accessorised with silver earrings with diamonds and open-toed high heeled platforms.
The mother of dragons aka Emilia Clarke looked drop dread gorgeous in a custom metallic off-shoulder Balmain. She paired it with Niwaka fine diamond jewels and debuted a new haircut.
3. The usual classics
The gorgeous actor from Crazy Rich Asians came to represent and how. Dressed to the nines in a yellow custom Versace off-shoulder gown, Constance Wu was rocking her fairy princess comes alive bit. She has her hair back in a wavy ponytail and accessorised her outfit with yellow platform pumps and diamond earrings and cuff.
The A Star Is Born actor and best actress nominee was channeling her inner Audrey Hepburn with her custom Alexander McQueen black gown and the iconic Tiffany Yellow Diamond, weighing in at 128.54 carats. These were last seen on Hepburn during her Breakfast at Tiffany's shoot.
Regina King's won proved that women over 40 were ruling the red carpet and big screens with meaty and substantial roles. She shut down the red carpet in her custom white Oscar de La Renta off-shoulder gown. Her Chopard jewels were worth noting too. As Forbes shares, these included "earrings featuring 7.92 carats of pear shaped diamonds and 4.34 carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold; a ring featuring a 10.51-carat round brilliant-cut diamond set in 18k white gold; and a diamond bracelet with 53.43-carats of diamonds set in 18k white gold, all from the “Haute Joaillerie Collection.”
The South African actor took a major risk with her custom Dior powder blue outfit. She accessorised her look with major bling courtesy of Bvlgari. She reportedly donned "300 carats of diamonds and 30 carats of sapphires from the Bulgari Serpenti collection jewels that included a white gold double wrap high jewelry necklace with a matching bracelet, along with a high jewelry diamond necklace of more than 75 carats and high jewelry earrings with 25 carats of sapphires."
And of course, there was Billy Porter, the man in a gown.
Actor Billy Porter slayed the red carpet in an actual tuxedo gown by Christian Siriano. The velvet look featured silk lapels, as well as white ruffled sleeves, a stylish black bow tie, and a voluminous ball skirt.
Siriano even reacted to Porter wearing his look on Instagram. "The most divine moment! @theebillyporter in a custom Siriano tuxedo gown at the #oscars! Shut this carpet down! (emoticon) (sic)," he posted.
