The Biebs just got super candid about his marriage with model Hailey Baldwin, revealing pretty surprising details.

So Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin (now Bieber) are on the cover of Vogue's March issue, looking absolutely gorgeous and crazy in love, as expected from two newlyweds. The interview revealed juicy details about the high-profile couple's marriage — most notably their decision to remain celibate while they dated. Justin revealed that when he and Hailey started dating in June 2018, he hadn't had sex for more than a year. He claims that he had "a legitimate problem with sex", at one point turning to drugs to block out his feelings of shame about "being super-promiscuous and stuff."

"My mom always said to treat women with respect," he said. "For me that was always in my head while I was doing it, so I could never enjoy it. Drugs put a screen between me and what I was doing. It got pretty dark. I think there were times when my security was coming in late at night to check my pulse and see if I was still breathing.”

He says he decided not to take a break from sex for spiritual reasons — he wanted to reconnect with God.

“He doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” Justin explains. “He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain. I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that."

Justin went on to say that Hailey was kind of a reward for his "good behavior", adding, "I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior.”

Justin and Hailey were dating for under a month before they got engaged, and were married two months later in September. People had speculated that a pregnancy was the reason behind the whirlwind romance, but Hailey says that they don't plan on having kids for "at least a couple of years".

Hailey said that the public pressure after their marriage made her feel extremely lonely. She said that people seemed to be rooting for their marriage to fall apart, even though she took the decision to get married very seriously.

“I prayed to feel peace about the decision, and that’s where I landed,” she explained. “I love him very much. I have loved him for a long time.”

(JFYI, before they started seriously dating last year, Justin and Hailey had known each other for 10 years. They were introduced by their parents in 2009, and became friends a few years later, when they started attending church at the Australian megachurch Hillsong. And in 2016, they dated briefly, but the romance didn't last long, ending in a bad breakup.)

Justin admitted that sex was one reason that they decided to get a quick marriage at a courthouse (they still haven't had a traditional ceremony), but also said that it's not the only reason.

“When I saw her last June, I just forgot how much I loved her and how much I missed her and how much of a positive impact she made on my life. I was like, Holy cow, this is what I’ve been looking for.”
