With the vision to achieve a gender-balanced world, International Women’s Day 2019 campaign theme is #BalanceforBetter.
From local activism to global action, the world is envisioning a place that is balanced. As an year-long activity and collaboration, the 2019 #BalanceforBetter campaign will run throughout 2019 and will not end on International Women’s Day (IWD).
A gender-balanced world is not one gender’s issue nor a business issue, but is critical in order for economies and communities to thrive. Society needs to do its part to provide a gender-balanced environment everywhere from the boardroom, government, in media coverage, companies, and more.
And that’s exactly the initiative March 8, 2019, would kick start.
A Collective Effort Towards International Women’s Day 2019
Collectively we can all play a part in taking action and share responsibility for achieving a gender-balanced world. IWD celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political advancements of women globally. All this, while calling to action a vision for establishing and pushing gender balance.
First celebrated in 1911, IWD is supported by over one million people and is not restricted to any country, group or organisation. It also belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.
As Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist and activist, told IWD, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
Ways To Celebrate International Women’s Day 2019
According to the official site for International Women’s Day (IWD), the 2019 campaign theme is #BalanceforBetter. Happening on March 8th, you can honour this day while celebrating the hashtag all over social media.

1. #BalanceforBetter And Act!
Show your support to balance for better, with IWD’s campaign theme for 2019 as #BalanceforBetter. According to the official site, the campaign theme “provides a unified direction to guide and galvanise continuous collective action, with #BalanceforBetter activity reinforced and amplified all year.”
Depending on your goals, IWD is not exclusive to one organisation. You can celebrate by finding one you believe in and host an event.
2. Join In An Official International Women’s Day 2019 Event
Participate in the movement as you locate an official IWD event to join in through the IWD website. Events range from those hosted by charities, companies or government institutions.
3. Host A Screening Of Girl Rising At Home
According to their official website, the mission of Girl Rising is “to change the way the world values girls and to ensure girls everywhere can be full and equal participants in society.”
As a campaign for the education and empowerment of girls everywhere, it aims to end global poverty by getting girls into classrooms. Consider organising a Girl Rising screening and get educated as well as help educate others.
4. Contribute To A Cause
Consider donating to a charity you respect that is doing great work towards gender parity and women empowerment.
5. Speak Up And Demand Change
Highlight what you think needs change and speak up. Be an advocate for change and demand it, whether it is regarding the gender wage gap, or even the wage gap between different ethnicities.
6. Rally Behind Your Friends’ Projects
A great way to support IWD is getting behind your friends’ new projects while showering them with support and help them gain visibility within the community. Show appreciation and support for your closed ones.
7. Throw A Slumber Party
Gather your friends as you host a slumber party for anything from brainstorming charity fundraising ideas while you get together to watch great female-directed and centric movies.
8. Motivate Others
Put your hands out and strike the #BalanceforBetter pose and make IWD your day.
9. Share On Social Media
Amplify your #IWD2019 message on social media with your “hands out” balance pose for a strong call-to-action for others to also join in the #BalanceforBetter movement.
10. Support Women-Owned Businesses
Support women-owned companies and small businesses, it is that simple! According to Fast Company, it found that female CEOs only see 2.7% of funding while only 0.2% of funding dollars go to women of colour, even though women start companies at a faster rate than men.
11. Celebrate Women’s Voices And Work
At the very least, honour the work and voices of women you love from afar. Whether they are your entrepreneur friends or those who might be trying to start a business. Or even those who may be fighting battles that need support. Do not hesitate to celebrate strong women around you. You are not only uplifting them, but also empowering yourself to be a strong supporter for a good cause.
