Her work has become so famous over the years that Heart Evangelista Hermès bags (as some are called) are now a collector's item

Love Marie Ongpauco-Escudero aka Heart Evangelista is no stranger to the creative field. She began her career as an actor at the age of 13, and quickly added artist and later fashion connoisseur to the list.

“I haven’t really stopped painting since I was a little girl, doodling on walls and Vogue covers,” she told the Inquirer. “I started painting more during a very sad stage in my life when I was having issues with my parents; painting was therapeutic for me,” she shared.

It was this continuous practice from a very early age that helped Evangelista hone her skills as an artist, In fact, even hosted exhibitions in the Philippines and Singapore in 2014. But her art became internationally recognised only after a minor food accident.

By her own admission a few years back, Evangelista said she dropped a dollop of cheese on her Hermès bag, which left a stain she couldn't get rid of. After researching for a solution, she sought to paint her itself. And thus—a luxury bag-painting artist was born.

She first got to it on her own stained Hermès bag using an acrylic paint. She was able to cover the stain with a floral design and when she posted her creation online she began getting offers from collectors and Hermès bag owners. After much thought, Evangelista decided to go ahead and take this challenge head on.

Heart Evangelista Hermès Bags: A Sought After Possession

“I got nightmares doing my first commissioned bag, a vintage, frayed Hermès owned by a friend who trusted me. I dreamt I did a mistake, and the painting got bigger and bigger while I was fixing it; it was a lot of pressure,” she shared.

She has since painted more than 40 designer bags including those in canvas while the rest are leather Birkins, Kellies and Herbags. She often chooses to add her own signature style of bright images of kois, flowers, birds and female figures.

Her work has become so famous over the years that Heart Evangelista Hermès bags (as some are called) are now a collector's item. And some are even owned by stylist Kat Cruz-Villanueva as well as Jinkee Pacquiao.

Place her painted handbags and you'll think of them as masterful pieces on their own-- something that you might want to display as opposed to use. But that's the beauty of Love Marie bags.  They are so unique that Heart even painted Lebanese designer Fadia Dekmak's Louis Vuitton wallet.
