At the first ever Terno Con, designers breathed new life into the Philippine national dress, and the results were fabulous.

On 11 November, 2018, Philippine retail brand Bench and the Cultural Centre of the Philippines presented the first-ever showcase of Terno Con — a celebration of the Philippines' national dress. Here are the best looks of TernoCon 2018.

The 8 Best Looks of TernoCon 2018

The terno has been long associated with Philippine culture's traditional idea of the perfect woman — conservative and ultra feminine. While this number by Cary Santiago is definitely feminine, it's a little sexier than the usual.

2. Ria Bolivar in Cary Santiago

Cary Santiago showcased a line of sculptural ternos with avian details: from tiny birds perched on top of the terno's butterfly sleeves to entire numbers covered with "feathers" — like this one modelled by Ria Bolivar.

3. Megan Young in Niv De Leon

The modern Filipina deserves modern options, and this terno by Niv De Leon doesn't disappoint. That skirt is such a showstopper!

This funky number by Slim's Fashion and Arts School student Dinnes Obusan was inspired by the popular street game "Chinese garter". The colourful terno is made from handmade jersey pipipngs, with a form-fitting body that ends in a fun fringe.

5. Lovi Poe in Albert Andrada

Who knew a plunging neckling could go so well with the terno? And it's backless too!

Sisters Kyle and Kerry Tinga wore black minimalist designs from Lesley Mobo, and they looked badass AF. We're especially digging Kyle Tinga's long-sleeved black velvet number — she looks positively regal in it.

7. Xandra Rocha in Tria Ramolete

While most of the guests at TernoCon came in cocktail chic, Xandra Rocha came wearing a laidback look from Tria Ramolete.

Model Sharina Gutierrez looks like a warrior princess in this terno by Rajo Laurel. The ultra-futuristic number is a refreshing take on the centuries-old terno.
