Calling Aspiring DJs! Get Your Golden Ticket To Berlin Now
Zouk Singapore’s annual competition for professional and aspiring DJs is now open and can get you a chance to fly off to Berlin. So hurry up!
There is some good news for aspiring DJs. Zouk Singapore’s annual competition for professional and amateur DJs is back and is now accepting applications.
The Phuture DJ Battle (PDJB) that dates back to 1997, and has been instrumental in building careers, continues its tradition this year as well.
If you recall famous DJs including Ghetto (SG), Zushan, and Mad Jester have found fame through this competition.
This year PDBJ is again on a hunt for the best talent. The online form for the competition will be available via social media this year.
To make sure that the PDJB champion is truly deserving, Zouk has upgraded the competition with a stricter judging criteria and panel of judges.
This year’s panel of judges will include five veteran DJs -- DJ Rattle, Koflow, Zushan, DJ Ghetto and DJ Inquisitive. They will judge the contestants based on their originality (30 percent), skills (30 percent), track selection (30 percent), and presentation (10 percent).
Zouk will announce the top seven through the event’s Facebook page. The good news is that the winner of the recent Live Mix Maestro, DJ Fariz, will also join them to complete the top eight, who will then battle out on September 5, for the finals.
If you are an aspiring DJ, then this might be your chance to follow the footsteps of Ghetto, Zushan, and Mad Jester!
That's because there are no age restrictions to the competition. Those who live overseas can also join as long as they are willing to spend for transportation and accommodation!
Remember that the video must be shot in a single angle and your face must be visible. Zouk allows all kinds of DJ equipments as long as the judges are informed.
You can submit your three-minute video clip or YouTube link on their event page by July 6, 2018, 11:59pm.
You Can Win A Trip To Berlin!
As far as what you win is concerned, apart from a chance to spin at Zouk Singapore, the winners will get a direct flight to Berlin for two. Amenities including a stay with breakfast at the Andaz Singapore, Robin Schulz Limited Edition Sennheiser HD 25 headphones, and a pair of sneakers from Adidas and Zalora will also be awarded.
But if you're the first and second runner-up, worry not, because you'll go home with a few prizes too!
So if you're as aspiring DJ or want to participate in the competition, go ahead and do it now!
And for those who still need a bit of inspiration, these performances from Phuture DJ Battle’s past winners might just be the motivation you need today!
1. Zushan (2007)
Zushan began turntabling at the age of 17. He started out as a Hip-Hop DJ and turntablist. Since then, he has ventured into other music styles such as House to Techno, Funk to Disco, Dubstep to Drum & Bass, and many more.
He is now a resident DJ at Zouk.
2. Ghetto (2009)
Ghetto won the PHUTURE DJ Scratch Battle (July Edition) in 2009 and has been DJ-ing at Phuture since 2010.
His signature is EDM, Hip-Hop, and R&B beats and he plays in TGIW at Zouk, on Wednesday nights. Since its launch with Ghetto being an instrumental figure, the party has seen a weekly full house capacity.
Apart from TGIW at Zouk, he also fronts Bulletproof every Friday.
He uploads his work on Soundcloud and guess what? You can also check him out on Spotify! Meanwhile, catch him turn the table with fellow Phuture resident DJ, Zushan, in the video above.
3. Mad Jester (2017)
Turntablism caught the attention of Mad Jester in 2013. From being an aspiring DJ, he went on to win last year’s DJ Battle. He is now busy performing at different private events, bars, and clubs.
Interestingly, Rocking Good Records, a Singaporean record label, features him as a turntablist.
